The short answer to that is yes, there is a portable charger available for the Tesla. Tesla themselves provide connecting chargers when you purchase your vehicle. These chargers are available for each model and, if you know your way around electric installations, there are options to install a portable solar charger to become more energy efficient.

There are multiple accessories that you can buy with your Tesla when you purchase the vehicle, and these can include the wall connectors that accompany the car, but we’re going to look at the best portable chargers for the Tesla (these include all models.)

Is There a Portable Charger For Tesla?

EV Gear Level 2 EV Charger

The EV Gear store have introduced a Brand Hut universal EV charger, which is designed to enable quick, reliable charging for your Tesla. As this is a universal EV charger, this is also designed for rival electric or hybrid vehicles. The charging cable features 240V, 16 Amp charging and provides a 3.86kW/hour charge, as well as being 30 feet long. The kit also contains a foot long level 1 adapter in case your vehicle doesn’t accept a level 2 charge.

The charging kit, retailing at $299.99, comes with a three-year warranty and has received positive reviews from customers, who have praised the adaptation to the level 1 charge (although commenting that it is a slow charger, which EV Gear do make clear in their product description). Some, however, have questioned that longevity of the product, stating that the product is prone to stopping working after three months.

Splitvold 24A NEMA 10-30 EV Charger

Splitvolt have designed a range of portable EV chargers, which they claim provides the fastest allowable rate for National Electric Code-approved 30 Amp circuit and can be used in all weathers (though it is important to make sure that the charger itself is adequately covered.) You don’t need to install the charger, which includes a one-year warranty. You have the choice of three different chargers – the NEMA 10-30 ($279.99), the NEMA 14-30 ($279.99) and the NEMA 14-50 ($314.99).

The reviews for these chargers have been positive, with some stating that these are particularly good for the Model 3. As with the EV Gear charger, some consumers have criticised the durability of the chargers, saying that they do not last longer than two to three months.

No, you’re not misreading the name – it really is called the Generic EV Charger! They have designed a Duosida charger which has universal compatibility with all electric and hybrid vehicles. The cord is 25 feet long and charges with a 16-amp, 220-volt NEMA 6-20 plug. The charger comes with a two-year warranty, which always gives the consumer peace of mind in case something does go wrong. The charger is available for $199.99 and has received positive reviews from buyers, who have praised the charging time and its value for money, although some have also said that the charger is prone to shutting down for no apparent reason.

As with the previous chargers, it is advertised as being compatible with all electric and hybrid vehicles that meet SAE J1772 standards although, as a Tesla owner, you will need to purchase an additional adapter to meet these standards. There are two chargers available – the 32 Amp for $449.99 and the 40 Amp for $499.99. Although these chargers are considerably more expensive than the previously reviewed chargers, there is a reassurance in knowing that Shell is a highly reputable brand. Final Thoughts

As you can see, there are a considerable number of portable chargers available for the Tesla models. When you do decide to purchase one of these for your Tesla, there are a few things that you need to think about. The durability of the product is perhaps the first thing to think about, as some portable chargers have been known to last up to three months, which is not a long time in the grand scheme of things. Another issue to consider is the price and whether you’re getting true value for money. When purchasing any accessory for your Tesla, it is important to remember that the cheapest product may not necessarily be the best.
