To hard wire your dash cam, first locate your fuse box and determine which fuses are constant fuses and which fuses are ignition switched fuses with a circuit tester. Be sure to read your hard wire kit, as some require a constant fuse, an ignition switched fuse and a ground, where as others only require either a constant fuse or an ignition switched fuse, and a ground. Avoid fuses that go to things like your stability control or air bags. Instead, shoot for fuses that control your sun roof, radio or seat warmers. Either wrap the stripped end of the wire around a leg of the fuse several times or use the connection method depicted in your hardware kit. Lastly, ground the dashcam by attaching the ground wire to a metal bolt or screw in the vehicle that is backed by metal (not plastic). If you are concerned about doing this yourself, you can hire a professional to do it for you.

 

How to hide dashcam wires?

The simplest way to hide your dashcam’s wire is to run it along the top of the windshield, along the rubber strip along the passenger side of the windshield, and then under the dashboard until it reaches the power source. The wire can likely be gently slipped under the headliner over the windshield and under the weather stripping. Use gum tape to hold the wire up under the dashboard. If this option does not seem like enough for you, you can always use a digital camera or extra phone for a wireless means of road surveillance.
