AxFAST Level 2 Portable Electric Vehicle Charger Review

AxFAST Accell 3203 32Amp EV Charger

What is it?

The AxFAST Accell 3202 32Amp Level 2 Portable Electric Vehicle Charger is a charger with the voltage range 208/240V. The charging ability of this level 2 charger. AxFAST claim that this charger is capable of charging up to six time faster than a level 1 charger (when plugged directly into a 240V outlet.)

The charger cable is a portable cable, meaning that it is transferrable for use anywhere where a NEMA 14-50 outlet is installed.

It is important to note that Tesla owners do require an additional adapter to convert the cable capabilities to SAE J1772.

This charger has received a 100% approval rating on Amazon so far, with one reviewer stating that the ability to use the charger for multiple vehicles was the decisive factor.

Pros

  • Charges up to six times faster than the level 1 equivalent,
  • The charger is portable, meaning that, if needed, it can be transported to a different location (as long as a NEMA 14-50 outlet is installed.)

Con

  • Tesla owners need to purchase an additional adapter to convert the cable capabilities to SAE J1772.

Which adapters can I buy?

LECTRON J1772 Adapter

The Lectron J1772 is a compact, high-powered adapter, which is designed to connect J1772-supporting plugs to Tesla chargers. It is designed to be durable and, at £87.99, it is a very affordable adapter.

Customers have been please with the affordability of the adapter and the quality but have had the occasional issue with fitting it to the X and S models.

EVCARS Charging Adapter

The EVCARS charging adapter is designed to connect J1772-supporting plugs to Tesla chargers but does not work with the Gen 3 superchargers (but the advert does state which charging ports are and aren’t compatible with this adapter). The adapt also includes an anti-dropping mechanism, which essentially locks the plug into the adapter unless unlocked by the user. At $159.99, this is more expensive than the LECTRON adapter. Customers have stated that the simplicity of the adapter makes it easier to use but some have complained about it not working with the Gen 3 superchargers (even though it is stated on the advert.)

The cable can also be plugged into a dryer outlet with an optional NEMA 10-30 adapter.

Pros

  • Can be used with a variety of outlets,
  • The charger is portable, meaning that, if needed, it can be transported to a different location.

Con

  • As with the previous cable, Tesla owners need to purchase an additional adapter to convert the cable capabilities to SAE J1772.

Keruida J1772 to Tesla Adapter

The Keruida J1772 to Tesla adapter is a compact adapter which is advertised as allowing Tesla drivers to use more cables for charging their vehicles. The adapter is also advertised as being able to work under weather conditions of -22°F to 122°F (-30°C to 50°C), which means that it is suitable for most conditions. As the adapter is pocket-sized, it can easily be transported where needed. MEGEAR Tesla to SAE J1772 Adapter

The MEGEAR Tesla to SAE J1772 adapter is similar in design to that of the LECTRON. It is advertised as being suitable for weather conditions of -30°F to 50°F (-34°C to 10°C), although it is possible that this is a typing error. Priced at $159.99, it is more expensive than two of the other adapters reviewed, but customers have been happy with the quality of this adapter compared with others, but others have critiqued the quality of the packaging and the fact that it doesn’t work with Gen 3 superchargers (although this is made clear in the advert.)

Final Thoughts

The AxFAST level 2 portable electric chargers reviewed in this article are affordable charger cables (with the 3203 32 Amp being priced at $459.99 and the dual-voltage charger priced at $294.99) and are stylish in their appearance. The major drawback with these cables is that Tesla owners do need to purchase adapters in order to be able to charge their vehicles, if they do opt to purchase these cables. With that being said, the adapters are reasonably priced and are easy to obtain, so that should not put you off investing in these cables to charge your Tesla vehicle.
